Recently, we completed building and installing custom, hand-forged, interior railings for a private estate in Southampton, N.Y. Designed by the esteemed, Oliver Cope Architect firm, the ironwork incorporates traditional features within a contemporary design scheme, making it a truly one of a kind creation. With a total length of 52 linear feet, the railings were designed to only have 4 straight vertical posts. The infill consists of hand-bent, intersecting arcs capped with custom-made collars presented in repeated patterns. Once fully built, the railings were finished and lightened by hand using a chemical blackening patina. The railings were then sealed with a professional grade satin lacquer for protection. Although quite complicated to build, the clean, flowing design found throughout the railings lends itself to the overall simplicity and contemporary aesthetic of the home. Please keep an eye out for a full case study of the project. coming soon.
